What Is Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR)?

Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) measures the efficiency with which birds convert feed into body weight (in broilers) or eggs (in layers). It is calculated as:

FCR = Total feed consumed ÷ Total weight gain (or egg mass produced)

A lower FCR means better feed efficiency — the bird is converting more feed into useful output. For example, an FCR of 1.6 means the bird consumed 1.6 kg of feed to gain 1 kg of body weight.
